About the Pryor Center

The Pryor Center was created in 1999 at the urging of former U.S. Senator David H. Pryor and Barbara Pryor of Arkansas, who have long had an interest in Arkansas history.  The center has the mission to document the cultural heritage of Arkansans by collecting oral and moving image resources, and to share those resources with scholars, students, and the public.

The center was developed under the leadership of the University of Arkansas History Department chair, Professor Jeannie M. Whayne.  From 2007 – 2009 the center was administered by the University Libraries' Special Collections Department. Today the center is part of the Chancellor’s Office and maintains close partnerships with Special Collections and other academic units across the university campus.

Nominate Someone for an Interview

Do you know someone who has a great Arkansas story to tell?  We invite you to nominate people from your community to be interviewed.  Just fill out our nomination form and send it to us.

Reference Materials

We cannot record every interview and collect every recording on our own.  We need your help!  You can partner with the Pryor Center by recording and donating an audio only interview to the Pryor Center, and we can help you with that process.

Click the links below to access and download reference materials developed by the Pryor Center to assist you in recording Arkansas stories.  These materials include a checklist to keep you on track and guidelines for conducting an oral history interview.

The Pryor Center has limited digital audio recording equipment available on a first-come–first–served basis.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact us at pryorctr@uark.edu.  We value you your feedback.
