John Edwin Anthony

John Edwin Anthony was born in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas, on February 14, 1939. He grew up in south Arkansas and east Texas.

Anthony attended college at the University of Arkansas. He graduated with a B.S. in business administration in 1961. That same year Anthony returned to south Arkansas to manage the family's lumber businesses after his father's death. Anthony founded Anthony Timberlands, Inc. in 1971 to consolidate the family ventures. He was president of the company until 2004 when he transitioned to chairman of the board.

Anthony has owned two horse racing stables, Loblolly Stables and Shortleaf Stables. He provided funding for Anthony Chapel and the Anthony Family Carillon at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. Anthony was inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame in 2012.
