Thomas Patrick Healy was born in Valhalla, New York, on August 5, 1961.
Healy graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Harvard University in 1983 and went on to earn an MFA from Columbia University.
Healy is a nationally recognized writer, educator, and curator. He was appointed to the Presidential Council on HIV/AIDS by President Bill Clinton. President Barack Obama appointed Healy to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, which he chaired from 2011 to 2014. Healy has served on numerous boards and organizations, including The Brooklyn Museum, Poets House, and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Healy directed the Curator Culture series at The Bass Museum and taught at Pratt Institute and New York University. His published collections of poetry include What the Right Hand Knows and Animal Spirits.
