In April 2012, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) hosted a three-day course at the University of Arkansas on the “Legacy of Dale Bumpers” taught by legendary Arkansas journalist Ernie Dumas and featuring Senator Dale Bumpers himself. The first two days of the course featured Ernie Dumas lecturing on Bumpers’ political biography. The Pryor Center recorded Dumas’ lecture from the second day, which covers Bumpers’ time as governor and senator. The final day of the course comprised a wide-ranging discussion between Dumas and Bumpers on Bumpers’ time in the US Senate and his political legacy. This section of the course begins with the showing of a video of Bumpers’ closing argument in the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in 1999 and follows with a discussion of that event before moving on to other topics.
