Steve Womack was born on February 18, 1957, in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas. Womack and his family moved to Missouri soon after he was born and returned to Russellville in 1973.
Womack graduated from Russellville High School in 1975 and then attended Arkansas Tech University, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1979. After college he joined the Arkansas National Guard.
Womack and his father, Colonel Kermit Womack, started KURM Radio in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1979, where Steve Womack served as the first station manager. In 1990 he became the executive officer in the ROTC program at the University of Arkansas, and in 1996 he took a position as a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch.
Womack was elected mayor of Rogers in 1998 and served in that office for twelve years. He retired from the Arkansas National Guard in 2009 with a rank of colonel. Womack was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2010.
