Sadie Gilmore Booker was born in Strong, Union County, Arkansas, on October 13, 1924, and spent part of her childhood in El Dorado, Arkansas.
Booker graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1945 with a B.S.E. in home economics. She became a Home Demonstration agent in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and taught elementary school in Pine Bluff before returning to teach in El Dorado in 1959.
Booker earned her Master’s degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1969 and became a registered dietician. She was the first teacher of occupational home economics programs in Arkansas. Booker pioneered the food service program in the El Dorado school system. She continued teaching elementary, high school, and college courses until 1995. Booker served as a legislative advisor for the Arkansas School Food Service Association.
